DHAKA, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS) - The country’s minimum temperature dropped by one degree Celsius today, while a mild cold wave continues to affect several regions, said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Weather is expected to remain dry with partly cloudy skies at times over the next 24 hours from 9am today.

The cold wave is prevailing over Rangpur division and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Jashore and Chuadanga, and may persist.

Moderate to thick fog is likely over river basins, with light to moderate fog elsewhere during late night and morning hours.

Although the minimum temperature fell nationwide, the number of districts under cold wave conditions decreased to nine today from 19 yesterday. These are Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Kurigram, Jashore and Chuadanga.

Tetulia in Panchagarh recorded the country’s lowest temperature at 7.3 degree Celsius today, down from 8.3 degree Celsius yesterday. Tetulia has reported the lowest readings for four consecutive days.

Meteorologists noted that temperatures may rise slightly today but the cold wave will persist. From tomorrow, temperatures are expected to drop again, with the affected areas expanding. Night and day temperatures may decline slightly in the south, while remaining nearly unchanged elsewhere.

In Dhaka, the minimum temperature rose to 15.1 degree Celsius today, compared to 12.4 degree Celsius yesterday and 12.2 degree Celsius on Friday.

The widening gap between maximum and minimum temperatures indicates warmer daytime conditions.
Yesterday’s highest temperature was 28.5 degree Celsius at Srimangal, while today’s lowest was 7.3 degree Celsius at Tetulia.

In the capital, winds are blowing from the north to northwest at 5–10 km/h. Relative humidity at 6am was 79 percent. Sunset in Dhaka will be at 5:30pm today and sunrise tomorrow at 6:44am.
