Doa mahfil held in Cumilla seeking eternal peace of Khaleda Zia

CUMILLA, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS)- Two separate prayers and doa mahfil were held here seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of BNP's former chairperson and three-time former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

The prayers were held after Asr prayer at Chhati Mosque and after Maghrib prayers at Shah Shuja Mosque here today. The programme was arranged at the initiative of Monirul Haque Chowdhury, BNP-nominated candidate for the Cumilla-6 constituency.

After the prayers, Monirul Haque, along with district and poura BNP leaders carried out a door-to-door campaign in the Jhautala area of ward no. 10.

Those who participated in the prayer and campaign were included central BNP Assistant Organizing Secretary Mostak Mia, Poura BNP President Utbatul Bari Abu, former mayor Monirul Haque Sakkhu, South District BNP General Secretary Ashiqur Rahman Mahmud Wasim, Senior Vice President Amiruzzaman Bhuiyan, Organizing Secretary Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan Swapan, Cumilla District Freedom Fighters' Commander Nure Alam Bhuiyan, South Thana BNP Convener Hanif Mia, Sadar South Upazila BNP President Advocate Akhtar Hossain, former Member Secretary of South District Jatiyatabadi Samajik and Sangkrit Sangtha Mohammad Morshed, BNP Adviser Engineer Idris Mehdi, ward President Ali Ikramul Haque Suman, Poura Jubo Dal Senior Joint Convener Riaz Uddin Riaz and Poura Swechchhasebak Dal Joint Convener-1 Atik Selim Rubel.

In a brief speech before the prayer, Monirul Haque Chowdhury said that the 'Mother of Democracy', the uncompromising leader Begum Khaleda Zia, was a leader of the freedom-loving people of this country. 

He said she (Khaleda Zia) never compromised with oppressors and that inspired by her steel-hard, resolute leadership, the BNP will lead the nation in future to build the country.
