DHAKA, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS) - Without prior written permission from the returning officer, no educational institution is allowed to be used as a venue for any meeting or campaign for electioneering.

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury today sent a letter containing the instructions to the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE).

The letter said that centring the election and referendum scheduled to be held on February 12, some candidates or their supporters are attempting to engage voters in the name of seminars, discussions and youth gatherings and carrying out election campaigning.

In many cases, heads of educational institutions are allowing the use of fields or auditoriums without permission from the returning officer, which is a clear violation of the election code of conduct.

To maintain electoral discipline, the letter insisted ensuring that no educational institution is allowed to be used as a venue for any meeting or campaign without written permission from the returning officer.

Director (Secondary) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, in this regard, said a directive would be sent very soon from DSHE to all educational institutions across the country so that the authorities concerned strictly ensure proper compliance with the election code of conduct.
