DHAKA, Jan 25, 2026 (BSS) - Agriculture and Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said the government is planning to provide incentives to potato farmers as they failed to get fair prices due to increased production.

He made the remarks while briefing journalists on overall agricultural issues at the meeting room of the Ministry of Agriculture at the Secretariat here.

The adviser said production of major crops including paddy, potato, onion, vegetables and mustard has increased significantly this year.

Paddy production rose by six percent compared to last year, while potato production increased by 14 percent. Onion production saw a sharp rise of 22 percent, contributing to price stability in the market, he said.

Vegetable production has increased by four percent, which has helped keep prices fairly stable, he continued.

However, he noted that a drastic fall in prices negatively affected the farmers.

"We want prices to remain stable," he said, adding that vegetable prices often face volatility during the months of Falgun and Chaitra after Magh.

He has also highlighted that mustard recorded the highest production increase at 86 percent.

To support farmers and reduce post-harvest losses, the adviser said 100 mini cold storages have already been set up across 64 districts, with another 100 currently under construction.

He further informed that the stock of non-urea fertilizer this year is the highest since 1961.

Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian and other senior officials were present at the briefing.
