Inter-ministerial meeting reviews Middle East situation

DHAKA, March 2, 2026 (BSS) – An inter-ministerial meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today to review the sprouting situation in the Middle East and assess its implications for Bangladesh, particularly in aviation, expatriate welfare and regional security.

The meeting was chaired by Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and attended by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, MP, and Adviser to the Prime Minister Humayun Kabir, who holds the rank of State Minister for the ministries of foreign affairs, disaster management and relief, and civil aviation and tourism.

Minister for Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury, MP, State Minister Md. Nurul Haque, MP, and State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat were also present.

According to officials, the meeting reviewed the security developments in the Middle East and their potential impact on Bangladesh’s expatriates, air connectivity and overall economic interests.

The participants discussed coordinated measures to ensure the safety and welfare of Bangladeshi nationals residing in the region and to minimise disruptions to air travel and overseas employment.

The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining close monitoring of the situation and ensuring inter-agency coordination to respond promptly to any emerging challenges.
