DHAKA, April 25, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today underscored the need for concerted efforts of all stakeholders in the ICT sector to build a technology-driven modern society and state.

"Collective application of intellect and ideas by all stakeholders in the ICT sector is essential to build a modern, technology-based society and state," he said.

The minister was addressing a policy dialogue titled 'Building Bangladesh's Digital Future: Telecom, Data and Cyber Security Bill 2026', organised by Bangladesh ICT Stakeholders Alliance (BISA) at a city club in the capital this evening.

The info minister said, "The combined practice of creative thinking and technological knowledge becomes the greatest asset of a nation. This will be our key tool to face the challenges of future civilisation."

Highlighting the current global geopolitical context, Swapon said semiconductors and rare minerals have now emerged as strategic components of global civilisation.

"The inclusion of a semiconductor company chief among the world's top 100 influential leaders proves that the power of technology has transcended borders. While energy resources once drove conflicts, technological capability is now a decisive factor," he added.

Calling upon ICT experts, the minister said they have a better understanding of complex technological developments and digital transformation than the general public.

"You can guide policymakers in fulfilling national responsibilities. Your collective knowledge will help formulate timely and effective policies," he said.

Swapon also expressed hope that BISA would serve as a platform for investors, industrialists and experts in the ICT sector to share innovative ideas.

"Open dialogues on important legislations like the Telecom and Cyber Security Bill 2026 will play an effective role in ensuring the security of Digital Bangladesh," he added.

Speaking as the chief guest, BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan addressed the event.

Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam, Prime Minister's Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly and BISA Chief Adviser Mustafa Rafiqul Islam Duke also spoke at the programme.

The event was chaired by BISA President Faisal Alim. Entrepreneurs, legal experts and policymakers from the ICT sector were present at the dialogue.
