PM to visit Chandpur on May 16, Feni on May 25

DHAKA, May 6, 2026 (BSS) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Chandpur on May 16 and Feni district on May 25.

“Before the monsoon season, the Honorable Prime Minister is going to visit two districts - Chandpur and Feni. He will go to Chandpur on May 16 and to Feni on May 25,” said Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee. 

The minister was talking to journalists after holding a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Bangladesh Secretariat here this morning.

The meeting on water resources management was held at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Division office at the Secretariat at 10 am.
 
About the meeting, the water resources minister said that it was revealed in the meeting that the technical work, survey and feasibility study of the Padma Barrage Project have almost been completed. The government would soon take a decision on this matter, he added.

Replying to a question from a journalist, Anee said that the canal excavation programme is ongoing. During the visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the canal excavation programmes in Chandpur and Feni before the monsoon season begins, he added.

“The Honorable Prime Minister is going to Chandpur on May 16. Among many programmes there, the canal excavation programme is also included.

 He will inaugurate the canal excavation programme there,” the minister said, adding, the Prime Minister is giving priority to canal excavation programme wherever he goes to visit across the country. 

Highlighting the government’s initiative undertaken to excavate 20,000-kilometre canal across the country over the next five years, he said in line with the programme, the Prime Minister has already visited some districts and inaugurated the excavation programme there.

“All of our ministers and lawmakers are continuing this programme in their respective areas. As the monsoon season has almost arrived, perhaps we will be able to continue this programme until this May. 

After the monsoon, we will continue this canal excavation programme again around next November, December, and January,” he added.
