DHAKA, May 8, 2026 (BSS) - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and visiting Pakistan Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi held a courtesy meeting at InterContinental Dhaka on Thursday afternoon, where they discussed a range of issues related to regional security, law enforcement and bilateral cooperation.
The meeting focused on enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement agencies, strengthening judicial cooperation and improving coordination to combat transnational crimes, according to a Home Ministry press release.
Both sides emphasized intelligence sharing and joint efforts to prevent trafficking in persons (TIP) and smuggling of migrants (SOM), alongside ensuring protection and awareness support for trafficking victims.
The two ministers also highlighted the importance of a Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (MLAR) agreement to facilitate the swift exchange of information and evidence in criminal investigations.
Discussions were also held on effective extradition mechanisms to prevent criminals involved in terrorism, financial crimes, drug trafficking and smuggling from evading justice across borders.
They further stressed the need to expand training on modern policing and criminal investigation, particularly in tackling cybercrime and organized crime through secure intelligence-sharing mechanisms.
During the meeting, Bangladesh called for stronger international support to ensure the safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas.
The role Pakistan could play in promoting constructive international engagement with Myanmar was also discussed.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Senior Secretary of Home Ministry Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam and Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider, among other senior officials from both countries, were present at the meeting.
