Afzal Naser remanded again in attempted JnU student Anik murder case

DHAKA, May 8, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today placed dismissed DGFI director Lt Col Afzal Naser on a 3-day remand in an attempted murder case of Jagannath University (JnU) student Anik Kumar Das filed with Kotwali Police Station in the capital during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ripon Hossain passed the order following a seven-day remand petition filed by investigation officer KM Abdul Huq.

Earlier on 5 May, Afzal Naser was placed on 3-day remand in the same case.

Following his arrest on 30 March from the Mirpur DOHS area in Dhaka, Afzal had been taken on remand several times in different cases.

According to the case documents, on 16 July 2024, students of Jagannath University brought out a procession as part of the anti-discrimination student movement.

When they reached Court House Street, activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations allegedly attacked the procession using locally made weapons and firearms.

During the attack, JnU student Anik Kumar Das was shot and seriously injured. He filed the case with Kotwali Police Station on 21 November 2024.
