Three sent to jail over arson, theft at DPE

DHAKA, May 07, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail three people in a case lodged over an arson attack and subsequent theft at a store room of the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) in Mirpur-2, under Mirpur Model Police Station in Dhaka.

The three accused are DPE research officer Md Jinnat  Ali Biswas, store keeper Humayun Kabir Khan and data entree operator Shahid Hossain.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam passed the order as police produced the trio after end of their four-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep them behind bars till the end of probe.

The court on May 3 placed them on a four-day remand in the case.

According to case documents, the fire was set between 2:00am and 4:30am on Friday on the second floor store room. Of 735 laptops stored there, 450 were found intact, 33 partially damaged, 29 severely damaged, and 140 completely burnt, while 83 laptops were missing. 

After reviewing the CCTV camera footages, police found that five people broke into the store room and committed the crimes.

Directorate of Primary Education assistant director Md Sazzad Hossain later filed the case in this connection.
