CHATTOGRAM, May 7, 2026 (BSS)- Two drug traffickers have been sentenced to life imprisonment in a Phensedyl smuggling case by a court in Halishahar police station in Chattogram city.

The court also fined each of them Taka 10,000 and sentenced them to an additional three months in prison in default.

The verdict was given by the court of Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Afroza Jasmine Koli of Chattogram on May 7.

The convicted individuals are Md. Delwar (40) and Raja Mia (40).

According to the courts bench assistant Naeem Hossain, the decision was made based on the testimony of five witnesses, proving the charges in the Phensedyl smuggling case.

The accused were present in court for the verdict and were subsequently sent to jail based on a sentence warrant.

According to court sources, on April 18, 2016, the Halishahar police station set up a check post and conducted a raid. An open truck with the license plate Chattogram-Dr-05-0024 was spotted speeding towards the port, and despite being signaled to stop, the driver attempted to flee.

The truck was eventually seized with the help of police and local witnesses, leading to the discovery of 110 bottles of Phensidyl inside, each bearing the label of an Indian pharmaceutical manufacturer.

Following the incident, the then Sub-Inspector (SI) of Halishahar police station, Jamir Uddin, filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act with the police station.
