PM offers ziarat at July martyr Wasim's grave

COX'S BAZAR, June 13, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today offered ziarat at the grave of Mohammad Wasim Akram, who embraced martyrdom during the anti-discrimination student movement in July, 2024.

The Prime Minister visited Wasim's grave in the Mehernama Bazarpara area of Pekua Upazila of the district this afternoon. He recited the fateha and offered prayers (dua) seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Wasim. 

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-3 constituency Lutfur Rahman Kajal were present on the occasion, among others.

Afterward, the Prime Minister met members of Wasim Akram's family and inquired about their well-being. He handed over a savings certificate worth Taka 20 lakh to Shaheed Wasim's mother Jotsna Begum.

Wasim Akram was killed on July 16 in 2024, during a violent clash involving police, members of the banned student organization Chhatra League and protesters in Chattogram's Muradpur area. 

He was a fourth-year undergraduate student in the Department of Sociology at Chattogram College and a member of the college unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) convening committee.

Wasim was the second among five children of Shafiul Alam and Jotsna Begum.
