Speaker returns home after conveying PM's condolence message to Qatari Emir

DHAKA, July 16, 2026 (BSS) - Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, MP, returned home early today after a brief official visit to Qatar, where he conveyed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's condolence message to the Emir of Qatar following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, father of the incumbent Emir.

The Speaker arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 3:00am.

During his visit, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad reached Doha on July 14 to convey Bangladesh's deep condolences over the demise of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

He handed over the condolence message from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

On the occasion, the Speaker conveyed heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh to the Emir and the bereaved members of the Qatari royal family. He also prayed for eternal peace and forgiveness for the departed soul.

After delivering the condolence message, the Speaker held a meeting with Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim, said a press release issued by the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat.
