DHAKA, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) – BNP’s acting Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today said BNP is working to ensure women empowerment as civilization cannot be complete without empowering women.
“Keeping in mind women’s ability to participate in every sphere of politics, society and the state, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had formed the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal,” he said.
Rizvi told journalists after laying wreaths and paying tribute at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on the occasion of the 48th founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.
He said Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal is one of the largest and strongest women’s organizations in Bangladesh.
The organization has protested against various forms of oppression, including violence against women and children, he said.
Along with standing beside families affected by violence, the Mohila Dal has also supported the families of women who were arrested for writing on social media platforms like Facebook to express their views freely, he said.
Rizvi said during the fascist Awami League’s regime, countless women, including Khadija and Nusrat, became victims of violence. In every such incident, the Mohila Dal protested on the streets and raised its voice against the atrocities, he added.
Regarding the country’s current energy situation, he said the gas and energy shortages are international and global crises.
Until the war between the United States and Iran comes to an end, it is not possible for any single country to resolve this crisis on its own, he added.
At present, difficulties have arisen in the transportation of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, he said.
Rizvi said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is making continuous efforts to address the country’s energy crisis.
Arrangements are being made to import gas from Kuwait, Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia. Gas-carrying cargoes have already begun arriving, he added.
Rizvi said the normal flow of gas had been disrupted due to a technical fault at the deep-sea gas terminal in Maheshkhali.
The problem has been fixed, and gas supplies are gradually returning to normal, he said.
He said if necessary, additional subsidies would be provided to import gas to tackle the crisis. For this purpose, an additional Tk 40,000 crore is being allocated to facilitate the import of gas and fuel, he said.
Regarding commodity prices, Rizvi said the government is intervening in the market to keep prices stable so that people can afford to spend according to their current incomes and purchase essential food items.
Prices of food products such as vegetables, rice, lentils and salt generally rise at the end of the monsoon and the beginning of autumn, he said.
However, due to the government’s strict intervention, prices of essential food items have not increased significantly, he said adding that as a result, inflation fell considerably in August.
Rizvi said former Prime Minister and BNP leader Begum Khaleda Zia had made education for female students free up to the intermediate level.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has declared education free up to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and BA Honours levels.
Through these programs, women’s empowerment is being ensured, he said.
Wishing the Mohila Dal overall success on its 48th founding anniversary, Rizvi said the BNP has always been working to respect women and help them move forward.
Strongly condemning and protesting the recent attack on a woman who contributed to the democratic movement, he said attacking a woman is one of the most despicable acts. Those who attack women and celebrate such incidents are cowards, he said.
