4 BCL activists killed in Sylhet road accident

SYLHET, Jan 20, 2024 (BSS) - Four activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were killed as a private car carrying them plunged into a roadside ditch on Sylhet-Jaflong highway in Banglabazar area under Jaintapur upazila of the district last night (Friday).

The deceased are Tamal, 25, son of Arch Miah of Panihara Hati of Jaintapur Upazila, Nehal, 26, son of Randeep Pal of Nijpat Union of the same upazila, Zubair son of Jamal Uddin of Kamlabari area, Ali Hossain Sumon son of Harun-Ur- Rashid of Nijpat Union. They were very close friends.

According to local sources, the private car fell into the roadside ditch when the driver lost control over the vehicle around 1am last night, leaving them seriously injured, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model Thana Golam Dastagir Ahmad said.

Later, the locals rescued the seriously injured from the private car and sent them to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared them dead. 

The bodies were kept at MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital morgue for post-mortem, he said.

General Secretary of Sylhet District Chhatra League Rahel Siraj claimed that all the victims were leaders and workers of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
