People’s expectations over state reforms very high: AF Hassan Ariff

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2024 (BSS) - Land Adviser AF Hassan Ariff today said people’s expectation over state reforms is very high as the country has never been run in line with the aspirations of 1971 Liberation War.

“People’s demand for reform this time is very strong while people's expectation is very high on the interim government which came through a mass uprising as the state failed to meet the people’s aspiration of the 1971 Liberation war in the last 53 years,” he said.

The adviser was addressing the award giving ceremony of ‘5th Inter-Religious Harmony Debate Festival’ at the RC Majumder auditorium on Dhaka University campus.

The adviser said, “Reforms are not an event that can be achieved through some particular acts, rather it’s a continuous process. And reforms need to be brought  in each sector place and stage of the state”.

It’s not practically possible for the interim government to bring out all the reforms the country needs for the next hundred years, he said, adding, “The political parties who will be coming in power next through election will continue the process and meet people’s expectations”.

Reforms is the fight to establish people’s rights which was seen in the context of formulating  Bangladesh Rin Salishi Board      that paved the way for farmers to get relief from oppression centring loans, he said.

Ariff said reforming the state is not an event that would be done if I leave my position  rather it’s a continuous process which will be done through social evolution, change and marching   the society forward.

Speaking about reforming the constitution, the adviser said it’s not possible that 17 crores of country’s people gather at a place and reform it article by article or line by line, rather it should be done through a proper system.

And thus, the constitution reform commission has been consulting with people across the country in phases which will continue till December, he said.
