ACC seeks info on govt employees’ dual citizenship, passports

DHAKA, Jan 1, 2025 (BSS) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the anti-graft watchdog, has sought information from three departments on government employees maintaining dual citizenship and passports.

Briefing the journalists today, ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain said letters have been sent to the Department of Immigration and Passports, the Special Branch of Bangladesh Police, and the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking information in details about government employees maintaining dual citizenship and passports.

At the recent time, it is being observed that some corrupt government servants are concealing information and are using passports of other countries except Bangladesh, said Akhter Hossain.

To avoid ACC’s ongoing anti-graft drive and any legal action, such employees are staying in those countries using their passports.

He, however, said their activities are completely against Section 40 of the Government Service Act, 2018.

The DG said investigations revealed that the prime target of government employees obtaining multiple passports is to conceal the illegal wealth acquired through corruption in Bangladesh and launder it abroad.
