4 die in accidents on Dhaka-Mawa expressway

MUNSHIGANJ, Jan 3, 2024 (BSS) - At least four persons were killed and 12 others injured in two separate road accidents that took place on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway due to dense fog in the early hours of today.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Jibon, 24, Mohammad Raihan, 36, Rakib, 25 and Sabuj, 35.

A minibus of 'Abdullah Paribahan' was haphazardly smashed as a Mawa-bound covered van hit the vehicle in the Nimtala area under Sirajdikhan upazila around 12:10am, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Highway Police Abdul Kader.

"Helper of the minibus Mohammad Jibon, son of Nurul Islam of Kalligaon village under Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj district and one of its passengers Mohammad Raihan, son of Mahiuddin Ahmed hailed from Devipura village of Sirajdikhan upazila of the district, died on the spot," the OC said, adding nine other people were also injured in accident. The injured people were taken to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex immediately.

In another accident, two passengers of a bus - Rakib and Sabuj - were killed as a truck hit a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Purbasha Paribahan in the Hasara area around 5am. Three people were also injured during the accident.

All of the injured people were sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
