CHATTOGRAM, Jan 03, (BSS) - Jatiya Press Club (JPC) President and Editor of the Daily Kaler Kantho Poet Hasan Hafiz said media should practice responsible journalism in the changed situation and not capriciousness by taking advantage of freedom.

“We’re passing through a transitional time; nation is facing conspiracies one after another both at home and abroad. So, media have to play positive role in line with the spirit of July uprising in which not only students and mass people , but also a number of journalists made supreme sacrifices” he said while speaking at a reception function organized by Chattogram Press Club (CPC) interim committee.

CPC arranged the function to accord a reception to Jatiya Press Club President Hasan Hafiz and General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan. The function was held at CPC’s VIP Lounge with member secretary of the committee Zahidul Karim Kachi in the chair.

Speaking at the function, Hasan Hafiz said, “We want a Bangladesh that is truly free from discrimination, inequality, injustice and exploitation and that echoes free thought. Journalists have a lot of responsibilities. We will all work together.”

JPC General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan said, “We’ve been  dreaming of a new Bangladesh in line with the spirit of July Revolution where media will not bow down their head for power and greed rather project the true aspiration of people.”

He said time has come to free media outlets from the grip of fascist allies to prevent any attempt of provocation and serving-tools of the ousted fascist regime.
He said JPC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CPC to provide facilities at both the clubs for members of both the clubs.

Interim committee member Mustafa Nayem, Golam Maula Murad, Chattogram Metropolitan Union of Journalists President Mohammed Shah Nowaz, General Secretary Saleh Noman, Freedom Fighter and elderly journalist Moinuddin Quadery Shawkat, CPC members Shahidul Islam, Shahnewaz Riton, among others, spoke at the function.
