PIO for disseminating news giving priority on public importance issues

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2025 (BSS) – Principal Information Officer (PIO) Md Nizamul Kabir today urged the public relations officers (PROs) of different ministries and departments to disseminate news giving priority on the matter of public importance.

He made the call at a day-long internal training on modern public relations strategies, concepts and development at the conference room of the Press Information Department (PID) at Bangladesh Secretariat here, said an official handout.

Besides, the PIO emphasized on organizing press conferences, publishing press information statements and increasing the use of social media.

Putting emphasize on applying modern public relations techniques in preparing press release, Nizamul said disseminating news on various important activities of the concerned adviser is one of the responsibilities of the public relations officers of the particular ministry. 

Apart from this, publishing news related to public interest and development activities of their respective ministries through media is also the responsibility of the PROs, he said and urged the officials to maintain objectivity in preparing press release.

The PIO directed the PROs to disseminate news on the declining trend of prices of essentials, improvement of law and order, progress of treatment of those injured in the anti-discrimination student movement, and different steps taken by the government to this end.

Regarding spread of rumors, Nizamul said that preventing disinformation has emerged as a big challenge in this era of information technology. He expected that the public relations officers would play a responsible role in preventing rumors related to their respective ministries.

Speaking about the Youth Festival-2025, the PIO said the PROs should collect and disseminate news related to the Youth Festival celebrations of the concerned ministries on priority basis. 

He urged the public relations officers to write features and articles on the Youth Festival.

Senior Deputy PIO (Press) M Javed Iqbal and Deputy PIO (Administration and Finance) Mohammad Ali Sarker were present on the occasion.
