Home adviser for installation of fire extinguisher in every house

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2025 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) today said fire extinguishers should be installed by all, reiterating his call to increase awareness about the fire safety across the country.

“You all should have fire extinguishers (in your houses and establishments). It should have in all of your houses as it is very easy to use and install,” he said while talking to journalists at the Secretariat here after inaugurating the fire drill at the home ministry.      

The fire extinguishers can be used by anyone to douse flame in their houses prior to spread the fire before reaching the fire engines, he said.  

The home adviser said they have started fire drill with the home ministry and the fire rehearsal will be conducted in the buildings of all the ministries subsequently.

“You know few days back, a fire broke out in the secretariat. We have planned to exercise fire drill in all the buildings in the secretariat to stop recurrence of such fire incidents,” he said.

 Jahangir said they have been working to increase awareness about fire safety among the staff of the secretariat as well as countrymen across the country.

Senior Secretary of the home ministry and head of the high-powered committee to probe fire in secretariat, Nasimul Ghani said the fire drills are being conducted following their recommendations.

“We are doing the fire drill as of the short term measures to make people aware about the fire safety,” he said.

Replying to a question, the probe report of the sample sent abroad to ascertain the cause of the fire at Secretariat has yet been received.
