ACC sues ex-state minister Meher Afroz Chumki on graft charges

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed a case against former state minister Meher Afroz Chumki for allegedly acquiring wealth through Illegal means inconsistent with known sources of her income.

ACC Director General (Prevention) Akhter Hossain, in media briefing, told journalists today at the ACC Headquarters this afternoon.

He said holding a very responsible position of the government, Meher Afroz has illegally acquired assets worth about Taka five crore, 27 lakh, 31 thousand and 356, which is inconsistent with the known income sources and she kept it in her possession for the narrow personal financial gains.

Besides, Chumki deposited Taka 12 crore 32 lakh, 19 thousand and 117 and transaction of Taka nine crore, 99 lakh, 31 thousand and 57 in her nine bank accounts had proved as unusual and suspicious.
