Jahangir dubs Canada as tested friend of Bangladesh

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2025 (BSS) - Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said that Canada has remained a tested friend of Bangladesh for more than fifty years.
 
"Bangladesh's friendly relationship with Canada is over 50 years old. This relationship is not just a country-to-country relationship but also a close ties between institutions and institutions and people and people. Canada is a tested friend of us," he said as a delegation led by Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh paid a courtesy call on him at his office in the Secretariat here.

The adviser told the delegation that Bangladesh expects more cooperation from Canada in various sectors, including agriculture, a press release said.
 
During the meeting, several issues, including agriculture, food and crop imports, use of information technology in agriculture, higher education of agriculturists, food security, the Rohingya, and the law and order situation of Bangladesh, were discussed, the release added.
 
The high commissioner expressed his country's interest in providing necessary assistance to ensure Bangladesh's food security.
 
He highlighted several issues, including the export of fertilizer and the supply of vaccines for the dairy and poultry sectors, while the adviser welcomed the envoy's proposals.
 
When the High Commissioner asked about the Rohingya issue, the adviser thanked Canada for standing by the Rohingya people, urging the envoy to provide shelter to more Rohingyas.
 
Counselor of the Canadian High Commission Debra Boyce, Counselor (Political) Marcus Devies, and officials of the agriculture ministry, among others, were present.
