Sakhawat for carrying out dredging to ensure river navigability

DHAKA, Jan 22, 2025 (BSS) – Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain has underscored the need for carrying out dredging to ensure navigability of rivers.

"To protect navigability of rivers dredging should be done at regular intervals, keeping in mind public convenience," he said at a seminar titled 'Shipping and Navigability: Challenges and Ways to Overcome' held at a city hotel on Tuesday.

Sakhawat, also the labour and employment adviser, urged all to come forward to keep the inland waterways alive by protecting the navigability of rivers in the country.

Bangladesh Cutter Suction Dredgers Association, Prakriti O Jibon Foundation, Bangladesh River Foundation and River and Delta Research Center jointly organized the seminar.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan was present on the occasion, among others.
