DHAKA, Jan 23, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) has ordered the Bangladesh
Rural Electrification Board (BREB) to give Taka 10 lakh within 30 days as
emergency financial aid for the treatment of a Satkhira child who lost his
right hand and leg after getting electrocuted by its uncovered electric line.

A High Court division bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf
passed the order on January 22, asking officials concerned including the BREB
chairman to comply with the order. The court gave the order after holding a
hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.

Advocates Muhammad Tarik-Ul Islam and Farid Hasan Mehedi moved the plea
before the court, while Deputy Attorney General Mahfuz Bin Yousuf stood for
the state.

According to the case documents, BREB took its high-powered but unauthorised
electricity line above the house of Md Abdur Razzak of village Protapnagar
under Ashashuni Police Station in Satkhira. His son Rakibuzzaman, who was
eight years old at the time, got electrocuted on May 9, 2021, after coming in
contact with the uncovered electricity line.

Family members rushed him to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of the Dhaka
Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the doctors had to amputate his right
hand and right leg.
