“The public libraries have a special role to preserve the memories of the martyrs of the 2024 July mass uprising and instill its correct history into future generations. To this end, the reading habit must be developed among the people,” he said.

The chief adviser made the remarks in a message issued here today on the occasion of the National Library Day to be celebrated across the country tomorrow.

“However, we need to ensure adequate reading materials to develop the reading habit. One of the reading materials is books. A quality book can awaken people's minds, arouse their interest in reading more, and can develop the reading habit,” Professor Yunus said.

He put emphasize on making the libraries enriched with adequate reading materials to develop the reading habit among the people.

The library is a pioneer in the social education movement, the chief adviser said, adding, public libraries play a special role in building a knowledge-based and enlightened society.

Noting that public libraries have a special role in reforming various sectors of the state, he said a large portion of the readers in the country's public libraries are youngsters.

To build a discrimination free society and the country, Professor Yunus said, libraries enlighten the young generations through knowledge acquisition, research, development of consciousness and values and cultural practice.

In line with the country’s development progress, he said, the service activities of the libraries are also improving from time to time.

“The libraries of our country are being developed and enriched with the touch of information technology like international standard libraries,” the chief adviser added.
