Thousands bid farewell to Rangpur BNP leader Anisur Rahman Laku

RANGPUR, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - Thousands of people bid farewell to Rangpur 
district BNP member-secretary, brave and persecuted leader Md Anisur Rahman 
Laku with tears, respect and love. 
 
He was laid to rest beside the graves of his parents at the Chhoto Nurpur 
(Waqf Mosque) graveyard at 7:40 pm after his second Namaj-e-Janaza held at 
the nearby Homeopathy College Mosque after Maghrib in Nurpur area of the 
city.
 
His first Namaj-e-Janaza was held after Asr at the Rangpur Collectorate 
Eidgah Maidan with participation of thousands of people, including leaders 
and activists of various political, social, cultural and professional 
organizations.
 
At this time, BNP Rangpur divisional organizing secretary principal Asadul 
Habib Dulu, Jamaat-e-Islami Rangpur metropolitan Ameer ATM Azam Khan, Islamic 
Movement Rangpur metropolitan president Abdur Rahman Qasemi, Gana Adhikar 
Parishad higher council member Hanif Khan Sajeeb, district BNP convener Md 
Saiful Islam, metropolitan BNP convener Shamsuzzaman Samu, member-secretary 
advocate Mahfuz-un-Nabi Don, district AB Party District president Abdul Baset 
Marjan, and others spoke about Anisur Rahman Laku's political life. 
 
The leaders said that Anisur Rahman Laku was an honest, clean, brave and 
persecuted leader. He kept the morale of the party's leaders and activists 
strong in the field during the long days of BNP. 
 
Anisur Rahman Laku maintained good relations with people from all walks of 
life, regardless of party, opinion, religion, and caste. 
 
At that time, many of the speakers were overcome with emotion and broke down 
in tears. 
 
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam 
Alamgir, Rangpur Divisional Organizing Secretary Principal Asadul Habib Dulu, 
among other senior leaders, expressed deep sorrow at his death.
 
Earlier, Anisur Rahman Laku passed away early Wednesday morning following a 
massive cardiac arrest. He was 53.
 
Laku suffered the fatal heart attack at Sherpur point in Bogura on the Dhaka-
Rangpur highway while returning from Dhaka in a private vehicle. 
 

He was accompanied by Md Saiful Islam, convener of Rangpur district BNP, who 
immediately rushed him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College 
Hospital.
 
Despite efforts by doctors, Laku breathed his last while receiving treatment 
around 7:10 am. His body was later brought to his residence in Nurpur area of 
Rangpur city.
 
Laku and Saiful Islam had travelled to Dhaka to invite central BNP leaders to 
attend the upcoming Rangpur district BNP conference, scheduled for October 
14.
 
A widely respected and popular figure in Rangpur's political circles, Laku 
was known for his clean image and long-standing commitment to the BNP.
 
He previously served in various leadership roles including joint general 
secretary and organizing secretary of Metropolitan BNP, general secretary of 
the district Jubo Dal, central assistant organizing secretary of Jubo Dal, 
president of Rangpur district Chhatra Dal and convener of Carmichael College 
Chhatra Dal.
 
Laku is survived by his wife and two daughters.
 
News of his sudden demise has cast a pall of gloom among the local political 
colleagues. 
 
Hundreds of party workers, supporters, political leaders from various 
parties, socio-cultural activists and residents had been gathering at his 
Nurpur residence to pay their respects.
