DHAKA, Feb 20, 2025 (BSS) – Islamic scholars, journalists and teachers at a discussion here today said the spirit of the great language movement inspired the nation to wage such a massive movement like July-August mass uprising that ousted authoritarian ruler Sheikh Hasina.

“We must keep alive the dreams of a new Bangladesh, remembering the sacrifices of July uprising martyrs and honor those who gave their blood and lives in the 1952 language movement,” said the speakers.

Speakers emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of martyrs at the discussion at the Islamic Foundation (IF) auditorium, marking ‘Shaheed Dibash’ (Martyrs Day) and the International Mother Language Day.

Quoting a verse from the holy Quran, which highlights the significance of language as a divine gift, Islamic Foundation Director General Abdus Salam Khan said, “Language is a vital element for human connection and identity. The importance of mother language cannot be ignored.”

Chaired by IF Coordination Director Md. Mohiuddin, Jatiya Press Club former General secretary Elias Khan, Director of the Mosque-Based Child and Mass Education Program SM Shafiul Alam Talukdar and Director of the Darul Arkam Ibadatdai Madrasa Project Abdus Sabur, IF directors Tauhidul Anwar and Rezzakul Haider took part in the discussion.

The speakers highlighted the sacrifices made for the country's achievements, particularly how every success has come through shedding of blood and stressed that the victory gained through the people's uprising in 2024 must be preserved.

“We must keep alive the dreams of the new Bangladesh, remembering the sacrifices made, and honor those who gave their blood and lives in the 1952 language movement,” they said.

They said, “The sacrifices of 1952 martyrs were not just for language, but for the very soul and identity of Bangladesh as a nation.” They urged everyone to continue striving for the preservation and elevation of the Bengali language, both within Bangladesh and on the global stage.

The event concluded with a prayer for the forgiveness of the language movement martyrs and a collective supplication for continued peace, welfare, and progress in the country.
