DHAKA, Feb 21, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today stated that the spirit of Ekushey will resist the rise of fascism in the country.
"If fascism raises its head high again in the country, the spirit of Ekushey will stop it," he told the journalists after paying homage to the language martyrs by placing a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar here in the morning, marking the Martyrs Day and International Mother Language Day.
Mentioning that the spirit of February 21 remains an indomitable force, the BNP senior leader said that the spirit will never diminish.
If any kind of dictator rises, the spirit of Ekushey February will inspire the people of this country to take to the streets again, he added.
Rizvi said: "The 'Ekushey February' of 1952 has long been a revolutionary ideology for us that can never be destroyed or faded. February 21 will continue to give us courage and inspire us to fight against any sort of injustice."
Ekhushey February means the struggle for rights, he said, adding, "February 21 was the first step towards our national independence."
"With this step, we gradually moved towards the war of liberation, and finally, we have achieved great independence," he said.
He said, "We have struggled for 17 years being imbued with the spirit of February 21. Many leaders and activists have been disappeared and killed in crossfire."
Through the sacrifices of their blood, the ultimate victory came with the movement of the students and the people, he continued.
Through the movement of student-people in July-August in 2024, the tyrant-dictator was forced to flee the country in the month of August, he said.
Earlier today at 6:30 am, a Provat Ferry (procession) comprising BNP leaders and activists, led by Rizvi, was brought out from Balaka Cinema Hall near New Market and proceeded to Azimpur.
After laying wreaths at the graves of language martyrs, the BNP leaders offered special prayers at the graves of the language martyrs.
Later, the Provat Feri reached the Central Shaheed Minar.
BNP chairperson's advisory council members-Aman Ullah Aman, Abdus Salam, joint secretaries - Khairul Kabir Khokon and Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, central leaders Nazim Uddin Alam, Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Aminul Haque, Ishraq Hossain, Monayem Munna, and Nurul Islam Nayan, and leaders of different associate bodies of the party-were present.
About the elections, Rizvi said the responsibility of this government is to hold an election in the country as soon as possible.
The government should not delay the election for reforms, as an elected government can easily carry out necessary reforms in parliament, he added.
Regarding the local government election, Rizvi emphasized that the national election is the top priority at this moment; nothing else.
Once power is restored to the people, they will elect their local representatives, he added.
