DHAKA, Feb 21, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has offered escort services and issued a set of 13 recommendations for the safe and secured transportation of large sums of money during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.

"If any individual, bank, or financial institution feels that they need police assistance to transfer a large amount of money, we will provide them with escort services," Deputy Commissioner (DC) and spokesperson of the DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman told BSS today.

The individual or organization seeking police assistance is advised to contact the relevant police station, the police control room, or the National Emergency Number 999, he said.

The numbers of the control room are 223381188, 0247119988 029619999, 01320-037845 01320-037846.

But the individual or organization seeking police escort service will have to arrange a vehicle, he said.

The DMP is offering the service as buying and selling; business, money transactions, and transfers will increase during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.
 
DMP directives for safe transportation of money

The DMP suggested that when carrying large sums of money, more than one person should be present, while the DMP has also urged city dwellers to avoid informing others in advance about the money being transported.

Instead of carrying money on foot or in a rickshaw, people can use a car, and the DMP also advised ensuring that no one from their shop or business establishment has informed miscreants before transporting cash.

 If there is a need to carry cash daily, a different route can be used occasionally so that the miscreants cannot take advantage of using the same route, the DMP Commissioner recommended, adding that the bag of money should be used in such a way that it cannot be seen from outside.

The DMP, in its directive, said that people can put their money in different places, such as pockets, bags, or divide the amount with a companion, instead of keeping it all together.

Instead of using alleys or deserted roads, relatively busy roads can be used, the DMP said, adding all should be extra careful when they get into traffic signals or jams.

The DMP said that everyone should try to transact with a bank that has CCTV cameras and after leaving the bank, people should try to understand whether anyone suspicious is following them or not. 

The work of transporting large amounts of money can be done during the day instead of night, it said.

The DMP said all should be careful about whether the secret number used in financial transactions is being captured by a hidden camera inside the ATM booth while the work of transferring money from one bank to another can be done through cheques.
