DHAKA, Feb 22, 2025 (BSS) - A fire broke out at the capital's Karail slum early today, gutting 61 shanties.

The fire originated from a kitchen stove at 12:44 am and quickly spread, gutting 61 shanties, sub-officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Nazrul Islam told BSS.

Ten fire fighting units rushed to the scene brought the blaze under control at 1:35 am after nearly one hour of frantic efforts.

No casualties were reported.

However, the extent of damage has been estimated at TK 10 lakh.

Meanwhile, in another fire incident at Taltola in Khilgaon on Friday evening, at least 20 shops, mostly garages, and two sawmills were gutted.
