One more held in NCTB building clash

DHAKA, Feb 22, 2025 (BSS) – Police arrested another person in connection with the clash in front of the NCTB building in Motijheel, raising the total number of arrestees to five.

Sayeed Fazlul Karim Swapan, 42, one of the accused in the case, filed in connection with the incident was arrested at 2:30 am on Saturday from East Shiachar area under Fatulla police station in Narayanganj district, said media release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today.

Pahari Chhatra Parishad filed the case against 16 persons along with 200 to 300 unnamed at Motijheel police station on January 17 this year over the clash took place in front of the NCTB building in Motijheel of January 15 over the issue of graffiti on the cover of textbooks.

Analyzing the CCTV footage and other videos during the incident, Syed Fazlul Karim Swapan was identified as the attacker on Rupaiya Shrestha in the clash.

A team of Motijheel Police Station conducted a raid in the East Shiachar area under Fatulla police station, Narayanganj and arrested him with the help of technology.

Motijheel police arrested accused Arif Al Khabir,38, and Md. Abbas, 24, on the night of January 15, while detective branch rounded up Md. Habibur Rahman on January 29 and Md. Shahadat Farazi Shakib, 35 on February 12.  

Arrestee Swapan has been produced before the court.
