CEC urges people to guard votes during election period

COX’S BAZAR, Feb 22, 2025 (BSS) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today called upon the people to guard their votes during the election period for the sake of democracy.

“Just as you guard your land, you should guard your vote as well…If necessary, everyone should guard the polling stations. So that a free and fair election can be taken place in the country,” he said.

The CEC made the remarks while addressing the annual sports and cultural events of Master Taleb Ullah Model School and College, and Hafez Jalal Uddin Adarsha Hefzkhana as the chief guest at Kutubdia in the afternoon. 

The institutions have been named after the names of Nasir Uddin’s father and grandfather.

Noting that incidents like creating obstruction of casting votes and killing people at polling stations will no longer be allowed in any circumstances, the CEC sought support from the country’s people so that they can hold a free and fair polls.

Pointing that the Election Commission will not follow anyone's order, he categorically said, “The Commission will not even operate according to the government's demands. The Commission will be run according to the powers given by the law. The Election Commission does not and will not work for anyone. This is the Commission's commitment.”

Earlier, the CEC joined another annual sports and prize giving ceremony of an institution named after his parents at his ancestral home at Sadar Baroghup Uttar Mogdeil in Kutubdia.
