BHOLA, Feb 23, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said priority will be given to women fishermen in updating the list of fishermen.

"Many non-fishermen have been included in the list of fishermen and this is unfair. Therefore, the list will be updated in such a way that no one can enter the list unfairly. The priority will be given to women fishermen in the list," she said.

The adviser said these as the chief guest at a meeting with fishermen on updating their registration at Dhalchar at Monpura upazila in the district.

Farida said, "The names of women fishermen should be highlighted on the list even if there are male fishermen in the same family. We want to give priority to women. Strict action will be taken so that no non-fisherman is allowed to enter the list."

Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain was present in the meeting.

Sakhawat, also the labour and employment adviser, said a 'ghat' (terminal) has been built in the district considering the hardships of the people of 'Dhalchar'.

As a result, the people of this region, especially the fishermen, will be benefited a lot, he added.

Later, the two advisers distributed registration cards among the registered fishermen of various fishing areas of Monpura upazila in the district.
