BHOLA, Feb 24, 2025 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said the government is planning to raise rice allocation up to 40 kg for the registered fishermen during the fishing ban period.

“The government is planning to give 40 kg rice instead of 25 kg for each registered fishermen families this year during the nationwide fishing ban period”, she said.

The adviser said this while exchanging views with the members of Adarsha Matshyajibi organizations at Dakshin Chargoalia village of Manpura upazila here this morning.

The allocated rice would be distributed on the beginning of the fishing restrictions period from now, she said.

Talking about update of fishermen registration, the adviser said the government is updating the list of the fishermen and the real fishermen will be included in the list.

Regarding the government facilities, she said most of the enlisted fishermen did not get all the government facilities in previous time. “This time the real fishermen will get the government facilities.”

Fishing ban in the country’s five fish sanctuaries would be enforced from March 1.

Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC)’s Additional Secretary Suraiya Akhter Jahan, Manpura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nikhil Bornic and other upazila and district administrative officials, among others, attended the meeting.
