DHAKA, Feb 25, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said brutal massacre of army officers in capital's Pilkhana was carried out under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

"The massacre in Pilkhana continued for two days under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina," he told journalists after paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Pilkhana by placing wreaths at their graves at Baanani military graveyard here, marking the Jatiya Shaheed Sena Dibash.

Describing the massacre as an unfortunate event for the nation, the BNP Secretary General said the Awami League, led by Hasina, orchestrated such incident and the massacre in Pilkhana continued for two days.

Recalling the horrific day of the Pilkhana massacre, Mirza Fakhrul said the enemies of Bangladesh as well as the army plotted and killed 57 army officers in the name of a BDR coup.

He said, "The intention of the enemies of Bangladesh was to attack the security system and so, they make the morale of the army vulnerable.

Fakhrul thanked the current interim government as they declared such a day as the 'Shaheed Sena Dibash'.

He suggested carrying out a complete, proper and impartial investigation to unearth the correct information centering the Pilkhana massacre and punish those involved in and responsible for the incident.

The BNP senior leader urged all to remember the sacrifices of the martyred army members forever.

Referring to the July-August mass uprising, he said, "We have united after many years. A huge political change has come in the country. The students and the people have created a golden opportunity for us by overthrowing the fascist forces to build a new Bangladesh."

BNP Standing Committee Member Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and several party leaders were present on the occasion.
