Environment secy for ensuring sustainable food production

DHAKA, March 13, 2025 (BSS) - Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Farhina Ahmed today called for the conservation of natural resources, including rivers, canals, valleys and atmosphere of earth, to ensure sustainable food production.

"To ensure nutritious food, it is important to manage food production system, maintaining minimum environmental damage. Natural resources, including rivers, canals, valleys and the atmosphere of earth, must be conserved to protect sustainable food production," she said.

The secretary made the call while addressing a workshop titled "Implementation of National Adaptation Plan from the Perspective of Food System and Nutrition" held at a city hotel, according to a press release. 

The workshop was jointly organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), the release added.

Dr Farhina welcomed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on food system signed by the environment ministry with GAIN in the workshop.

She expressed hope that this collaboration will be helpful in identifying challenges in food system and finding effective solutions under the National Adaptation Plan.

Earlier, Dr Fahmida Khanam, additional secretary of the ministry, inaugurated the workshop.

Representatives from various ministries, government and private organizations, development partners, civil society, NGOs, scientists, and researchers participated in the workshop.
