DHAKA, March 15, 2025 (BSS) - The death references and appeals of the accused in the murder case of BUET student Abrar Fahad is on Sunday's cause list of the High Court (HC).

A HC bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain fixed the date today. The court mentioned the death reference - 'state verses Mehedi Hassan Rasel and others as 'heard in part'.

Earlier, the hearing on the death references and the appeals of the accused in the Abrar Fahad murder case concluded on February 24, but the lawyers of the accused wanted to present more arguments in this regard.

Attorney General Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Mohammad Jasim Sorkar, Khondkar Bahar Rumi, Noor Mohammad Azmi and Russell Ahmed moved for the state along with Assistant Attorney Generals Abdul Zubair Jewel, Laboni Akter, Tanvir Pradhan and Sumaiya Binte Aziz.

On the other hand, senior lawyers SM Shahjahan, Azizur Rahman Dulu, Masud Hasan Chowdhury and Mohammad Shishier Monir stood for the accused.

The Supreme Court website published the case list for the Sunday session.

Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, was beaten to death by a group of activists of recently banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), at the Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university on October 6 in 2019, over a Facebook post regarding water-sharing issues between Bangladesh and India. His body was later found on the stairs of the hall.

On the following day, the victim's father filed a murder case against 19 Chhatra League activists with city's Chawkbazar police station when a massive outrage sparked across the country centering the issue.
