DHAKA, March 16, 2025 (BSS) - Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman said the High Court judgment in the case lodged over the brutal killing of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad, has established the concept for bringing discipline in the state and society, and ensuring justice.

"Through this judgment, a message was sent to the society that no matter how strong you are, how strong backing you have, the truth will ultimately prevail and the rule of law will be established," he said while addressing the press after the judgment was pronounced by the High Court division bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain.

Referring to an ancient Chinese saying, the Attorney General said, "Though death befalls all men alike, it may be weightier than Mount Tai or lighter than a feather. Abrar's death was like weightier than Mount Tai as it shook the roots of the values ??of the entire nation."

He also said the death of the BUET student has established the fact that no matter how strong the fascism is, when humanity awakens among the people, it can crush the fascism.

Meanwhile, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah expressed his satisfaction over the judgment and urged the authorities to execute it swiftly after all procedures are completed.

"I don't want any father's heart becomes empty like me; don't want repetition of such incidents. We want ragging to be eliminated; we want the students to live in their dorms safely," he said while talking to newsmen.

The grieving father also thanked the government for nominating Abrar for awarding Swadhinata Padak, the highest civilian honour, posthumously.

The High Court today upheld a lower court judgment that convicted and sentenced 20 people to death and five more to life imprisonment in a case lodged over the brutal killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad.

A High Court division bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain passed the verdict after hearing the convicts' death references and jail appeals.
