ACC files corruption cases against ex-minister Inu, wife

DHAKA, March 16, 2025(BSS) -The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu and his wife, former Member of Parliament (Reserved) Afroza Haque for acquiring wealth worth about Taka 6.34 crore illegally.

ACC Director General (DG-Prevention) Akhtar Hossain today disclosed the information to the journalists at a briefing at the commission's headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha area.

The DG told the reporters that Hasanul Haque Inu, former MP from Kushtia-2 constituency (Bheramara-Mirpur), allegedly conducted suspicious transactions of worth Tk 11,88,16,019 through his four bank accounts in his name.

The former minister has been accused of amassing wealth worth Tk 4,84, 25,507 by misusing power and criminal misconduct while he was a minister as well as MP.

The ACC filed the case against him under section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act-2004, section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947 and sections 4(2) and (3) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act-2012.

Meanwhile, Afroza Haque, also a former lawmaker of reserved seat has been accused of acquiring wealth worth about Taka 1,49,85,074 illegally.

The ACC filed another case against her for abating her wife in acquiring illegal wealth and properties beyond her known source of income.

The commission filed the case under section 27(1) of the ACC Act-2004, section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947 and section 109 of Bangladesh Penal Code.
