DHAKA, March 16, 2025 (BSS) – Journalist and writer Mahbub Morshed has emphasized the importance of upholding the unity emerged from the July mass uprising, urging that it should not be allowed to dissipate.

“The unity witnessed during the July mass uprising should not be destroyed. After the uprising, many are raising various demands and taking to the streets. Divisions are now visible among those who worked together during the 2024 mass uprising,” he said.

Mahbub Morshed, also Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), was addressing as the chief guest at a discussion titled ‘Role of Campus Journalists in the July Mass Uprising and the Way Forward’ , organized by Jagannath University Press Club prior to an iftar party on the campus.

Mahbub said, “This division is realistic because the mass uprising is a process where people from every class come together with their ideologies and support. However, after the movement's success, everyone begins to think about nation-building from their own perspectives and raise their own demands, which is natural.”

“But we must ensure that the unity emerged from the mass uprising is not destroyed through these demands,” he said, adding, “The key lesson of unity is that even with ideological differences, we must stay united. But now, the biggest challenge is to maintain that unison.”

The writer also said, “We must not forget how to stay united. After the change brought by the mass uprising, we should not return to the old system, where freedom of expression was absent, human rights were violated, voting rights were denied, political activity was restricted and marches as well as meetings were prohibited.”

“We must all pledge to never return to a fascist and authoritarian system,” Mahbub Morshed concluded.
