28,761 people get legal assistance thru SC Legal Aid

DHAKA, March 19, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 28,761 poor, helpless and financially indigent justice-seekers were provided with legal assistance at government expense through Supreme Court Legal Aid under National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO).


This information was revealed in a report published on the website of NLASO.


This report provides detailed information on legal assistance provided by NLASO from 2009 to February 2025.


Initially, this service of the National Legal Aid Services Organization was launched at the district level. But later, this service was introduced in the Supreme Court, the Workers' Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram, and prisons across the country.


The report stated that 25,509 people received legal advice services through Supreme Court Legal Aid and legal assistance was provided in 3,252 cases, of which 2,282 cases were settled.


High Court Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque is the new chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee, the report said.

Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque is the fifth Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee. The activities of the Supreme Court Legal Aid under the National Legal Aid Organization started in 2015.

The activities of the Supreme Court Legal Aid under the NLASO began in 2015.


This service has been provided at government expense under the 'Legal Aid Act' with the aim of providing legal aid to financially indigent and incompetent people seeking justice in the country. 


The activities of the National Legal Aid Services Organization are carried out under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
