CA calls for concerted efforts to improve maternal, child health

DHAKA, April 06, 2025 (BSS) – Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stressed the need for collective efforts from all levels, local and global, to improve the maternal and child health. 
   
In a message, marking the World Health Day, Prof Yunus said, “More action programmes are needed to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate which remains as a major challenge.

“Concerted efforts are needed at all levels, both national and international to overcome the challenge,” he said. 
 
The Day will be observed in Bangladesh with other countries tomorrow with the theme "Healthy beginning, hopeful futures".

In Bangladesh the message of the day has been ascertained "Safe birth for bright future," which the Chief Adviser described as ‘appropriate and timely’.
 
He said that the Health and Family Welfare Ministry has been working tirelessly to improve maternal and child health. 
 
“Various action programmes are being implemented by both the government and private sector. Development partners are working with the government keeping shoulder to shoulder to improve maternal and child health,” he said.
  
To sustain the success of the MDGs, the world leaders have set goal for implementing SDG by 2030 aimed at ensuring health services for all, he said. 
 
“This year, the World Health Organization has taken a special initiative to protect maternal and child health,” he said. 
 
In this connection, the Chief Adviser said that post-uprising Bangladesh has already achieved many successes in the health sector. 
 
Prof Yunus said his government is firmly committed to ensure health services for all women and children on priority basis 

“The interim government formed after the mass uprising of 2024 is committed to build Bangladesh as a safe and respected nation in the world,” he said.

The Chief Adviser wished every success of the programmes of the day.
