DHAKA, April 15, 2025 (BSS) - The three-day-long sixth economics summit titled "Bangladesh in the Midst of a Reform Crisis: A Roadmap for Long Lasting Reform" began today at Dhaka University (DU).
Organized by the Economics Study Center, a student-run club under the Department of Economics, the summit is being held with support from the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), International Labour Organization (ILO), and International Growth Centre (IGC).
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the summit as the chief guest.
In his address, Prof. Khan said the university's primary role is generating and disseminating knowledge that supports national progress.
As a national institution, we hold many responsibilities. But our core duty is to produce and spread knowledge throughout society to accelerate the country's development, he said.
He also stressed the need for stronger coordination among public and private institutions, including universities and research centers.
"We have internationally qualified teachers and researchers. Recognizing their contributions is essential to positioning Bangladesh in the competitive global landscape," the Vice Chancellor said.
Hasibul Hasan, President of the Economics Study Center, presided over the event, while General Secretary Jarin Tasnim Raisa delivered the welcome speech.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (admin) Prof. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (academic) Prof. Mamun Ahmed, Chairperson of the Economics Department Prof Masuda Yasmin, and the club's moderator Prof Raihan Selim addressed the event as special guests.
