DHAKA, April 20, 2025 (BSS) - Both national and local government could not bring any good results without reforms, Local Government Reform Commission chief Professor Tofail Ahmed said today.

He made the remark while speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy here this evening after the Commission members submitted its report to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.

Tofail Ahmed said it is quite possible to hold elections to union parishad, upazila parishad and zila parishad, municipalities and city corporations in a polls schedule of just 40 days.

Currently, elections to these institutions take some 225 days while those cost about Taka 2,300 crore, he said, adding that the cost would come down to Taka 700 crore if polls are held in a schedule.

Earlier in the day, the Local Government Reform Commission, led by its head Professor Tofail Ahmed, submitted its final report to Chief Advisor Prof Yunus.
