DHAKA, April 21, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today issued a rule asking 
authorities concerned to explain as to why it shall not pass an order to 
publish the list of people who received presidential clemency in the last 33 
years.

A High Court division bench of Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun 
Nahar Siddiqua passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition 
filed in this connection.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Omar Faruk filed the writ, pleading for 
court's order to publish the list of people, whose sentences were stayed or 
acquitted under presidential clemency under article 49 of the constitution 
from 1991 to July 31, 2024.

Officials concerned including cabinet secretary, home secretary and secretary 
of Public Division of the President's Office were made respondents in the 
writ petition.
