'International Chinese Language Day' observed at DU

DHAKA, April 25, 2025 (BSS)- The 'International Chinese Language Day' was 
observed on the Dhaka University (DU) campus today. 

Marking the day, a cultural programme was held at the Institute of Modern 
Languages (IML) auditorium.

IML of DU arranged the programme with the assistance of Confucius Institute 
at North South University (NSU) and the Confucius Classroom of Shanto Mariam-
Honghe.

Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Saima Haque Bidisha addressed the event as 
the chief guest with Director of the DU Confucius Institute Dr. Yang Hui in 
the chair.

On the occasion, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy Li Shaopeng was 
present as special guest.

Director of IML Prof Mohammad Absar Kamal delivered the welcome speech. 

Students presented music and an eye-catching cultural programme in the event. 
However, students who are studying at the Department of Chinese Language and 
Culture at the DU, NSU and Shanto Mariam University participated in a 
'Chinese Poetry Recitation Competition'.

Prof Saima Haque Bidisha said, "There is a deep similarity between the two 
countries in various fields including education and culture. To strengthen 
this relationship, the exchange programme of language and culture between the 
two countries needs to be further accelerated." 

She hoped that such events would further strengthen the inter-relationship 
between the students of Bangladesh and China.
