DHAKA, May 1, 2025 (2025) - The Labour Reform Commission submitted a set of recommendations aimed at ensuring safer and healthier working conditions for workers across the country.

The commission formally handed over its report to Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on April 21.

According to the report, workers must have the legal right to a safe and healthy working environment, along with improved access to healthcare services. Sector and occupation-specific health and safety plans must be developed to address the unique risks and needs within each industry.

The commission also recommended a comprehensive review of compensation policies for workers injured, disabled or killed in workplace accidents. New compensation standards will be outlined to ensure affected workers and their families receive fair and dignified support.

Earlier, on November 17, 2024, the interim government formed a 10-member Labor Reform Commission, led by Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, the executive director of the Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS).

The commission consulted with stakeholders, organizations and institutions to address labor-related issues before submitting its report with recommendations.
