DHAKA, Nov 11, 2025 (BSS) – The Election Commission (EC) has decided to complete all necessary preparations within November for holding the next general elections.

“Our target is to achieve our desired goal by completing all necessary preparations within the month of November,” Senior Secretary to the EC Akhter Ahmed told journalists in front of his office at the Nirbachon Bhaban here.

“We were lagging behind in two issues — one is the dialogue or view exchange with political parties, and the other is the registration of election observers,” he added.

Referring to the revival of the electoral constituencies in Bagerhat district, the EC Secretary said that the commission is yet to receive the certified copy of the High Court verdict. The commission will take further necessary steps after receiving the certified copy of the court order, he added.

Regarding the code of conduct for political parties or candidates, Akhter Ahmed said that a candidate would not be allowed to use more than three motorcycles during election meetings. Postering has already been banned, and no plastic items would be allowed to be used, but festoons and leaflets could be used by maintaining prescribed forms and rules, the EC Secretary added.

The EC Secretary said that if a candidate contests with a political party’s nomination, he or she would have to sign an agreement that the candidate or his party will abide by the code of conduct of the EC. If anybody contests as an independent candidate, he or she would have to give a personal commitment to the commission, the secretary added.

Replying to a question regarding the referendum, Akhter Ahmed said that the commission or its secretary is yet to receive any instruction in this regard.

Referring to the law and order situation, the commission secretary said that some important decisions have been taken in a recent law and order meeting, and the progress of these decisions would be reviewed in another meeting at the end of this month.

The main target of the commission is to create a congenial atmosphere to enable the announcement of the schedule at the beginning of next month after completing all the steps of preparations for holding the next general elections, he added.
