Expatriates' awareness is important to realize their rights: Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb

LAKSAM, Comilla, May 1, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, also in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, today put emphasis on creating awareness of the expatriates and their family members about their rights.

"Our expatriates and their family members are not aware of their rights . . . in this regard, awareness of expatriates is important to realize their rights," he told at function here.

He was speaking at a program organized by the Wage Earners' Welfare Board here to distribute scholarships to SSC and HSC students, financial grants to the families of those who died abroad, compensation and insurance checks.

Noting that the incumbent government has been trying to solve the problems seriously since assuming office, Faiz Ahmad said the expatriates have already started getting some benefits due to this pragmatic step of the government.

Calling Laksam as an expatriate-dominated area as the country's economy is powered by the income of expatriates, the CA’s special assistant said the government is ensuring various facilities for expatriates.

Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb urged all concerned to properly digitize everyone’s date of birth, name and spelling and the children by creating public awareness to solve future problems.

The Wage Earners’ Welfare Board has provided financial assistance of Taka 1.14 crore,  including Tk 18 lakh each to Laksam, Nangalkot and Manoharganj upazilas; Tk 24 million to three people in Nangalkot and Manoharganj upazilas for life insurance; Tk 72 lakh, 14 thousand and 553 to the families of two expatriates for compensation; Tk 5.77 lakh to SSC and equivalent students and Tk 36 lakh to HSC and equivalent students, totaling 1.14 million taka.

Among others, Head of the Electoral Reform Commission Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Director General of Wage Earners Welfare Board Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider, teachers, guardians and students of Gana Udyog Girls High School and College were present there.
